Avery Meyer Capstone Project
Avery Meyer is a high school student that appoached Woodturners of North Texas seeking our help in getting out word of his video series. The series represents his Capstone Project for his high school graduation His videos are well done, short, concise, and should be of interest to anyone with a woodturning or general woodworking hobby. Each video is less than 10 minutes in length.
In this video, I will tell you a bit about my discovery and subsequent passion for wood craft and how that passion evolved into my small business. I understand that not everyone will have a woodshop at their disposal, or even be interested in woodworking. That’s why my video series, while referring to woodworking and woodcraft, will be applicable to the aspects of starting and running a small business. Whether your business, my hope is that my experience with Avery Meyer Handcrafted, in an indirect way, lives on in your business, your self-discovery, donations to your community or charity and your effort to help others with their future endeavors.
Video 2: Setting up a business
In this video, I am going to tell you a bit about how my business came about, lessons I learned during the process and ideas that may help you in creating your small business. I started working in my father’s woodshop at the age of 12, which ultimately led to my woodworking business. However, starting up a business was not as simple as deciding to make products and selling them. Like me, you will need to spend some time thinking about exactly why you want a business and what you want to do with it. In short, a business plan.
Video 3: Advertising and selling strategies
In this video, I am going to tell you a bit about my experience with advertising and selling strategies for my own business and go over topics that may help you when marketing your own business. Those experiences vary from direct to market sales events like craft fairs and church markets, a few different reseller relationships that negotiated as well as online and word of mouth marketing.
Video 4: How to increase profit
In this video, I am going to share with you a bit about how I was able to increase my profits with my small business Avery Meyer Handcrafted and hopefully share some ideas for you to increase your own business’s profits. In this video, I am going to focus on what you can do to increase your profit regardless of what methods you are using to bring your product to market.
Video 5: Balancing school and your business
In this video, I am going to share with you a bit about how I balanced my high school education and athletic demands with the conflicts of running and maintaining a small business. I am hopeful that my experience will help you to navigate your challenges, whether they be a result of your schoolwork or your full-time job or any other conflicts you may be facing when creating or running your business.
